Our Hydrographic Surveying Program
*Students have the option to complete the Practicals and the Comprehensive Final Field Project in a single 7-week period or if preferred they can undertake the 3-week practical and can schedule the Comprehensive Final Field Project for the following year.
The aim of the IIC Academy S-5B program is to train and equip students with the knowledge, practical competencies and skills necessary to confidently and effectively undertake the planning, data processing and analysis of hydrographic surveys. The program is recognized by the FIG/IHO/ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers and is designed to maximise the advantages of online delivery. The first phase of the programme is online and develops a student’s theoretical knowledge. The programme commences with modules that provide introductory information and a series of demonstrations, then systematically add to this the scientific basis and broader knowledge requirements. This phase concludes with an introduction to the practical work. The second phase is conducted onsite at one of several regional locations and provides the student with practical learning and skills. In this phase instructors reinforce the theory learned in phase one and progressively lead students from supervised sessions to the ability to confidently work autonomously. The programme completes with the student’s proficiency being assessed with a final field project.
