3rd Party Quality Control of Digital Chart Data

IIC is committed to our "Total Product Quality" policy, based around the key elements of Accuracy, Completeness and Integrity.  We follow industry-leading quality control procedures for validating ENCs, DNCs, digital paper charts and other mapping media. IIC has over 150 years of combined digital chart validation experience.  Services include the comprehensive quality check of charts completed by a hydrographic office or outside contractor. We also assist hydrographic offices with the development and maintenance of quality control and quality assurance processes. Final deliverables from IIC include the validated chart file with all quality control steps fully documented.

Coastal Zone Management

With the increasing focus on coastal environments, coastal zone planning and management are more crucial than ever. IIC makes use of a variety of coastal information sources including: geodetic and planimetric data, topographic information such as natural and cultural features, and qualitative and quantitative data of the coastal zone. This information includes tidal range, the value of coastal properties and the amount of ship visits at selected ports.  Data can be received and delivered in a number of formats.  IIC techniques include:

Coastal Zone Management

  • mapping from analog sources with different horizontal and vertical datums and differing coordinate systems
  • assimilating data from vector sources
  • massaging data to fit a common base
  • compiling additional attribute information
  • building required data models

HIPS & SIPS Processing

CARIS HIPS (Hydrographic Information Processing System) is a powerful software system designed to effectively process large bathymetric datasets collected from single beam, multi-beam and swath type sonar systems.

IIC assists in HIPS processing by cleaning and thinning the thousands of depth soundings contained in these large bathymetric datasets and transforming them into smaller, more manageable databases that meet IHO standards.

CARIS SIPS (Sidescan Image Processing System) processes either backscatter imagery from multi-beam echosounding systems or high resolution imagery from digital sidescan sonar.

HIPS & SIPS Processing

IIC assists in SIPS processing by:

  • cleaning the sonar information
  • creating mosaics
  • identifying real world objects such as ship wrecks and bottom quality
